IPL to extend to 78 days by 2027 starting March 2025
The Indian Premier League (IPL) will expand its duration to 78 days by 2027, starting March 14, 2025. This marks an increase from 66 days in 2024 and 72 days in 2025, allowing the tournament to occupy a significant portion of the cricket calendar. Next year's IPL will feature 74 matches, maintaining the current format rather than increasing to 84 matches as previously suggested. The longer season aims to reduce double headers, as afternoon games attract less viewership compared to evening matches. All players from major cricketing nations are expected to be available, with South Africa, New Zealand, and others confirming participation. England's contracted players, except for Ben Stokes, will also be largely available, while Australian players will miss only the first week of IPL 2026.
