Iran must dismantle nuclear program or face consequences
National Security Advisor Mike Waltz said that the Trump administration is demanding Iran completely dismantle its nuclear weapons program. He made these remarks on CBS’ "Face the Nation" on Sunday. Waltz stated that Iran needs to "walk away completely" from its nuclear ambitions, warning that there will be consequences if they do not comply. Waltz did not clarify the specific consequences Iran might face. However, he noted that President Trump is considering "all options," including diplomatic measures. He emphasized that Iran's nuclear program must be abandoned in a transparent manner. Waltz expressed concern that if Iran obtains nuclear weapons, it could trigger an arms race in the Middle East, which would threaten U.S. national security. He remarked that Iran is in a precarious position, worse than it has been since 1979. Tensions between the U.S. and Iran have increased, especially after various attacks on Israel by Iranian proxies. Trump has indicated that military action is possible if Iran fails to negotiate a new nuclear agreement. Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has rejected talks with what he calls a "bullying government." Earlier discussions on negotiations seemed promising, but Iranian officials have since adopted a tougher stance. The 2015 nuclear deal from the Obama administration limited Iran's uranium enrichment, but current reports indicate that Iran's stockpile has significantly increased. U.S. intelligence believes that while Iran has not started an actual weapons program, they are making strides that could allow them to produce nuclear weapons in the future.
