Iranian singer arrested for performing without hijab in virtual concert

Iranian singer Parastoo Ahmady, 27, was arrested after performing in a virtual concert on YouTube without a hijab. The concert, which featured her in a sleeveless dress, has received over 1.5 million views. Ahmady was detained in Sari, Iran, following a complaint filed after her concert was posted online. Two male musicians who performed with her were also arrested in Tehran on the same day. The hijab has been mandatory in Iran since the 1979 Islamic revolution. Enforcement of this law has faced criticism, especially after protests erupted in 2022 following the death of Mahsa Amini.
