Ireland sees 6% increase in practicing nurses
The number of nurses in Ireland has risen by 6% to 76,558, according to new statistics. This increase is part of a broader growth in healthcare professionals, with practicing physicians up by 4% and midwives by 3%. Pharmacists have seen a 9% increase, bringing their total to 6,250. The number of physiotherapists has also grown, reaching 6,390, compared to 5,927 in 2023. In health education, 3,455 students graduated in 2024, marking a 1.6% increase from the previous year. The Department of Health compiled these statistics, which also include data on common surgical procedures performed in Ireland.
