Isabela to have a new 40-MW solar farm
PetroGreen Energy Corp. has started building a 40-megawatt solar power project in Isabela province, Philippines. The project, named the Limbauan Solar Power Project, aims to boost electricity supply to Luzon when it finishes by the end of 2025. On Tuesday, the company announced the start of construction. They held a ceremonial installation of the first solar panel. The project is a joint venture with the Japanese firm TAISEI Corp. It will provide clean energy to the Luzon grid, supporting the country’s goals for sustainability. Once completed, the solar farm will generate about 59 gigawatt-hours of energy each year. This amount of energy could power around 33,000 homes and help reduce carbon emissions by 31,700 metric tons. The first phase of the project will produce 6 MW of electricity, while the second phase will add 34 MW. During construction, the project is expected to create jobs for about 500 to 600 workers. PGEC aims to work with local government units on social responsibility and environmental programs. The Department of Energy has recognized the solar project as significant for the country’s energy development. This status helps speed up the approval process for necessary permits and licenses. The government encourages private investors like PGEC to invest in renewable energy, which is crucial for meeting growing power demands.
