Islamabad court bans PTI protests this weekend during Belarusian president's visit
The Islamabad High Court has prohibited the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party from holding protests this weekend, coinciding with the visit of the Belarusian president. The court cited a new law requiring prior approval for public gatherings, which PTI did not obtain. PTI founder Imran Khan had called for a major protest on November 24, criticizing the government and recent constitutional changes. The court emphasized the need for public order during the foreign delegation's visit and directed the federal government to engage with PTI leadership regarding the situation. In response, the interior ministry has heightened security measures, including deploying police and Rangers in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Section 144 has been imposed in Rawalpindi to prevent gatherings, and authorities are prepared to restrict PTI's movement to maintain order.
