Islamabad judge questions influence over state institutions
A judge in Pakistan raised concerns about influence from "other powers" over state institutions during a court hearing. Judge Tahir Abbas Supra made these comments while presiding over a bail hearing for Ali Shah, a lawmaker from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party. Judge Supra criticized the prosecution for not providing the necessary case records. He questioned if this failure was intentional, noting that all departments appear to be controlled by outside forces. The judge expressed frustration when the prosecution's attorney explained that the investigation officer was unavailable and had not returned to court. The prosecution said they can only submit case records once they have them officially. Judge Supra pointed out the responsibilities of the prosecution, expressing disappointment in their performance. He suggested that delays in presenting the required documents could lead to notices against the prosecution. He emphasized the need for accountability in governance and the judicial process. The judge adjourned the hearing until next Tuesday to allow the investigation officer to provide the needed documents.
