Israel arrests Eduard Yusupov for spying for Iran

Israeli authorities have arrested a 65-year-old man, Eduard Yusupov, for allegedly spying for Iran. The arrest was announced alongside an indictment that claims he photographed sensitive sites on behalf of Iranian intelligence. The Israeli security service Shin Bet and the police issued a joint statement regarding the case. Yusupov's surveillance activities reportedly began in October. He was approached by someone posing as an Azerbaijani living in Dubai, who recruited him for espionage. He was instructed to take pictures of important locations, including military bases and oil refineries. To carry out his tasks, Yusupov rented an apartment in Haifa with a view of the port. Despite suspecting he was working for a hostile group, he followed the orders of his handlers, who were identified as Iranian agents. He was allegedly compensated tens of thousands of dollars in cryptocurrency for his work, making it harder for authorities to trace the payments. This is not the first case of Iranian intelligence targeting Israeli citizens. In recent weeks, other individuals have been arrested for similar charges of providing intelligence to Iran. Israeli authorities are actively warning citizens about the risks of engaging with foreign entities from enemy states. As investigations continue, Israeli intelligence agencies remain alert to potential espionage networks. Yusupov's case will now proceed through the legal system to determine his level of involvement and possible punishment.
