Israel ends agreement with UN relief agency for Palestinian refugees
Israel has officially informed the United Nations that it is ending its agreement with the U.N. relief agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA. This decision follows recent legislation by the Israeli parliament that bans UNRWA's operations in Israel.
The Israeli government has criticized UNRWA for alleged anti-Israel bias and claims of infiltration by Hamas. The new legislation will significantly hinder UNRWA's ability to provide aid and education services in the occupied West Bank and Gaza.
Israel's foreign ministry stated that it will expand activities by other international organizations and prepare to sever ties with UNRWA. This move has raised concerns among aid groups and some of Israel's Western allies about worsening humanitarian conditions in Gaza.
