Israeli jets strike Damascus after rebels seize control of the city
Israeli fighter jets reportedly struck Damascus following a rebel takeover of the city, which ended the Assad regime's 54-year rule. Explosions were heard in the southwestern suburbs, but the Israeli Defense Force has not confirmed the airstrikes. The IDF has deployed forces in the Golan Heights buffer zone, occupied by Israel since 1967, to ensure security amid the unrest in Syria. They stated they are not interfering in Syria's internal matters. Rebels have captured key cities, including Aleppo and Homs, with little support from Assad's allies, Russia and Iran. Footage shows celebrations in Damascus, with reports of prisoners being freed and looting occurring. Assad's whereabouts are currently unknown.
