Israeli security admits errors in Hamas attack response
Israeli security services have acknowledged failures leading to Hamas's October 7 attack, blaming both their own misinterpretations and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's policies over the past decade. The Israel Security Agency admitted it did not warn military and political leaders in time. Netanyahu's close aides have called for the resignation of ISA director Ronen Bar, accusing him of failing to assess the threat from Hamas accurately. Bar has resisted calls to step down, citing the need to focus on the hostages still in Gaza. The Israeli Defense Forces have also accepted responsibility, with Lt Gen Herzi Halevi resigning, stating the attack occurred under his command. Netanyahu, however, is opposing a state commission of inquiry, aiming to shift blame away from his administration.
