Israeli tanks advance near Damascus as military operations intensify in Syria
Israeli tanks have advanced to about 16 miles southwest of Damascus, following the recent overthrow of President Bashar al-Assad. Israeli troops reportedly reached Qatana, six miles into Syria, as Israel established a buffer zone and conducted airstrikes on military targets. Heavy Israeli airstrikes have targeted Syrian military installations, reportedly destroying numerous aircraft and military assets. Israel claims its actions are defensive and not an intervention in Syria's conflict, despite regional condemnation from Egypt, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. In Syria, the transitional government is being formed after Assad's departure. The former prime minister has agreed to transfer power to a rebel-led administration, marking a significant shift in the country's political landscape after years of civil war.
