Israel's Iron Dome intercepts missiles as air defense systems activate
Israel's Iron Dome is a short-range air defense system designed to intercept rockets, mortars, and drones. Developed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems with U.S. support, it became operational in 2011 and is crucial for protecting populated areas from missile attacks. In addition to the Iron Dome, Israel has other defense systems. David's Sling targets ballistic missiles from 100 to 200 kilometers away, while the Arrow system is designed to intercept long-range threats, including those outside the atmosphere. The Iron Dome can ignore rockets that are not on a collision course with populated areas, allowing them to land safely. This capability has been enhanced since its initial deployment, expanding its coverage against various threats.
