Italian man sentenced to 3 years and 8 months for defrauding 90-year-old in Ascoli

ilrestodelcarlino.it (Italian) —

An Italian court in Ascoli sentenced Mario Giordano, a 41-year-old from Naples, to three years and eight months in prison for defrauding a 90-year-old woman. The scam occurred on October 28, 2025, when he posed as a carabiniere to collect money from the victim. Giordano's accomplice, Orazio Fazzini, 55, had already been sentenced to seven and a half years in February for the same crime. The pair tricked the elderly woman into handing over 1,600 euros, 20 euros, and jewelry, including earrings torn from her ears, causing bleeding. The two were intercepted after attempting a second scam that same day, posing as postal workers. Police found stolen goods in their car and Google Maps history showing Ascoli addresses, including the victim's home on Via Verdi.
