Jack Wilshere advocates for footballers' downtime freedom
Jack Wilshere, a former Arsenal footballer, recently shared his thoughts on the importance of downtime for players. In an interview, he emphasized that athletes should have the freedom to go out and enjoy their free time. Wilshere, who is now a first-team coach at Norwich City in the Championship, reflected on his own career. He stated that he never regrets enjoying his life outside of football. He believes that it’s vital for players to maintain a balance between their work and personal lives. During his career, Wilshere was often in the spotlight for his nightlife activities. He was photographed smoking and attending nightclubs multiple times. Despite this, he maintains that he knew when it was appropriate to go out and that it contributed positively to his wellbeing. The 33-year-old also discussed his coaching experience with young Arsenal talents Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly. Both players have impressed this season under current manager Mikel Arteta. Wilshere has ambitions to move into management and is currently working towards his Uefa Pro Licence. Wilshere's playing career started at Arsenal, but injuries plagued him, leading to his retirement in 2022. Arsenal's next match is against Fulham on April 1, while Norwich will face West Brom in the Championship on March 29.
