Jackson Township man surrenders after hostage situation
A 44-year-old man in Jackson Township was involved in a hostage situation that lasted three hours on Thursday evening. The incident took place around 7:30 p.m. at a home on Scotsbury Street NW. Police arrived at the scene and worked with negotiators and the Canton SWAT team. After several hours of discussions, the man released the hostage and surrendered to the authorities. He has been charged with felony kidnapping and disrupting public services, as well as a misdemeanor charge of domestic violence. According to the police, he allegedly used a gun to prevent the victim from leaving and made her fear for her safety. He also stopped her from calling 911 for help. The man pleaded not guilty to the charges during his court appearance on Friday. A pretrial hearing has been set for March 28.
