Jaffar Express operations resume following terrorist attack
The Jaffar Express train will start operating again today, according to Pakistan's Federal Minister for Railways, Muhammad Hanif Abbasi. Operations were halted last week after a serious attack on the train by terrorists from the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA). The attack occurred on Tuesday when the train, carrying 440 passengers, was ambushed. The security forces engaged in a two-day operation to rescue hostages and neutralize the attackers. By Wednesday evening, officials confirmed that 33 terrorists had been killed. Unfortunately, 26 hostages, including 18 security personnel, died, though no hostages were harmed during the final rescue. Minister Abbasi announced that drone surveillance will be introduced to enhance security for train travel in Balochistan. He noted that the railway service, which was suspended due to damaged tracks from the attack, has now been fully restored. Additionally, CCTV cameras will be installed at train stations and other important locations to improve safety. In response to the tragedy, Abbasi previously announced a compensation package of Rs5.2 million for the victims' families, along with job offers for their children in the railways. Meanwhile, the Federal Investigation Agency arrested a suspect related to an anti-state campaign on social media regarding the attack and has placed him in custody for further questioning.
