Jaiswal needs strong IPL season for T20 World Cup inclusion
Jwala Singh, the coach of Yashasvi Jaiswal, believes the upcoming IPL season is crucial for Jaiswal’s chances of returning to India's T20 World Cup squad. The 23-year-old opener has played well in Tests, but faces strong competition in T20 cricket, particularly from players like Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma. Jaiswal will have opportunities to shine in the IPL, which starts this Saturday. He has scored 723 runs in 23 T20Is, but was rested for the last couple of series. Singh believes this high-profile tournament will allow Jaiswal to prove himself once again. The T20 World Cup will be held in India and Sri Lanka from February to March 2026. Singh stressed that performances in the IPL are closely watched and can impact team selections. He noted that Jaiswal earned his spot in the national team based on his IPL 2023 performance. Jaiswal will be playing without his former partner, England's Jos Buttler, who has moved to the Gujarat Titans. Singh is confident that Jaiswal will adjust but acknowledges he will miss Buttler's presence. Singh encourages Jaiswal to focus on the team's goals and not dwell on changes. He believes Rajasthan Royals have a strong squad and hopes they find the right partnerships. Singh expects Jaiswal to aim for the highest run-scorer title in the IPL and stated that he is proud of his student’s journey.
