Jake Paul vs. Gervonta Davis fight negotiations fall through

Jake Paul was reportedly set to fight Gervonta Davis this year, but plans have now fallen through. The cause of the delay was Davis' recent draw with Lamont Roach. Initially, there were negotiations for a summer exhibition bout between Paul and Davis. However, due to significant weight differences, it could not be officially sanctioned. Davis usually fights at lightweight, around 135 pounds, while Paul is a natural cruiserweight, weighing up to 227 pounds. Boxing journalist Dan Rafael reported that negotiations ended when Davis activated a rematch clause after his draw with Roach. In that bout, Davis and Roach fought to a controversial draw. In the ninth round, Davis went down after a jab, but the referee did not call it a knockdown. The final scorecards were 115-113 for Davis and two 114-114 draws. Roach's team appealed the decision, but the New York State Athletic Commission upheld the result. Jake Paul attended the fight, but his plans are now on hold. A rematch between Davis and Roach is being planned for late June in either Las Vegas or Miami. The idea for Paul's match with Davis came after his brother, Logan Paul, faced Floyd Mayweather in 2021.
