Jamia Millia Islamia lifts suspensions of protesting students
Jamia Millia Islamia has lifted the suspensions of 10 out of 17 students involved in unauthorized protests. This decision comes after a stay order from the Delhi High Court. The students can now return to their classes but must sign a "bond of good conduct." Among the suspended students, two will also face fines of Rs 5,000 and Rs 3,000 as part of the disciplinary actions. The university had initially suspended these students for protesting without permission and for alleged vandalism during a demonstration. The protests were against the university's actions towards two PhD students involved in last year's CAA-NRC Remembrance Day. The students were also opposing a ban on protests on campus. After their police detention, the university suspended them on March 4, following charges related to the protests. An inquiry committee was formed to investigate the situation. Seven of the suspended students appealed their case in the Delhi High Court, which led to the stay of the suspension order. Details about the remaining seven students have not been clarified by the university yet.
