Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections see 64% overall turnout with 69% in final phase

The final phase of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir saw a turnout of 68.72%, the highest of the three phases. Overall, the elections recorded a 63.45% turnout, with previous phases at 61.38% and 57.31%. This election was the first since the abrogation of Article 370 and the increase of assembly seats to 90. Voters raised concerns about unemployment, lack of development, and basic amenities like clean water and ration supplies. The Election Commission reported that this election surpassed the turnout of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. It noted that regions previously affected by militancy participated actively, rejecting calls for boycotts and violence.
