The Jammu and Kashmir government announced on Tuesday that it currently has no plans to provide stipends for unemployed youth in the region. Minister Surinder Choudhary shared this information in the legislative assembly during a session that addressed concerns about joblessness. According to Choudhary, there are 370,811 youths registered as unemployed in Jammu and Kashmir. Of these, 213,007 are from the Kashmir Valley, while 157,804 are from the Jammu region. The minister noted that various government departments refer their job vacancies to the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission and the Services Selection Board. To support unemployed youth, the employment department regularly offers career counseling sessions. These sessions help young people explore different career options. The unemployment rate in Jammu and Kashmir has seen a slight decline recently. It dropped from 6.7% in the fiscal year 2019-20 to 6.1% in 2023-24. The yearly breakdown shows a decrease over the years, indicating a trend towards improved employment conditions.
