Jay Duplass receives Spotlight Award at SLO Film Fest
Jay Duplass will receive a special award at the San Luis Obispo International Film Festival next month. He is also set to showcase his new film, "The Baltimorons," which recently premiered at the SXSW festival in Texas. "The Baltimorons" is about a man who has recently stopped drinking and faces a dental emergency on Christmas Eve. He unexpectedly develops a romance with his older dentist. The film features actors Michael Strassner, Liz Larsen, and Olivia Luccardi. Duplass co-wrote the script and directed the film. This marks his first feature film since 2012. The SLO Film Fest will run from April 24 to April 29. It will start with "DJ Ahmet" and close with Daryl Hannah’s documentary about Neil Young's solo tour. The festival will present over 113 films, including various feature films and documentaries. Skye McLennan, the festival’s executive director, expressed excitement about honoring Duplass, noting his significant contributions to independent cinema. Duplass is scheduled to receive the award on April 27 during a career retrospective Q&A session. Alongside his film work, Duplass has worked extensively in television. He co-created the series "Togetherness" and has produced acclaimed projects like the Emmy-winning docuseries "Wild Wild Country."
