Jaya Bachchan praises Narendra Modi's unmatched political popularity
Jaya Bachchan, a veteran actress and Member of Parliament, shared her views on the popularity of actors compared to politicians. Speaking at an event in New Delhi, she stated that no one can rival the fame of actors unless they are Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Bachchan emphasized that many leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) achieve electoral success mainly due to Modi's name. She pointed out that their political abilities might not be strong enough on their own. "I feel this very strongly," she said. She expressed that both film and non-film actors in the ruling party often win elections due to Modi's influence. The actress also addressed the challenges that actors face when they enter politics. She noted that people might be drawn to a celebrity, but that does not guarantee their votes. "If a political leader stands today, not even four people will come to see you unless you are a known person," she remarked. When asked if any politician could achieve the same level of popularity as actors, Bachchan replied, "No. Until and unless you are Narendra Modi, nobody else." During the event, Priyanka Chaturvedi, a leader from Shiv Sena (UBT), mentioned that celebrities should take a stand on important issues. In response, Bachchan acknowledged the difficulties of doing so. She expressed that even while following all rules, the fear of government agencies like the Enforcement Directorate can stifle creativity. "I don’t have such fears," she stated, reflecting her outspoken nature.
