Jayvee Hinlo proposes Data Privacy Act amendments for corruption
Senatorial candidate Jayvee Hinlo has called for changes to the Data Privacy Act and the Bank Secrecy Law in the Philippines. He believes these amendments are crucial to strengthen the fight against corruption in the government. Hinlo shared his views in a recent Facebook post. He wants to give the Office of the Ombudsman the ability to access important documents without needing a court order. This would help in gathering evidence against corrupt officials more efficiently. In addition to fighting corruption, Hinlo has laid out his plans for the economy. He aims to create jobs through industrialization, large-scale farming, and better management of fisheries. He believes that the country should manufacture essential products locally, such as weapons and pharmaceuticals. To support this, Hinlo proposes an amendment to the Procurement Law. This law would prioritize locally-made goods, even if they cost slightly more than foreign products. He thinks this will encourage businesses to set up factories in the Philippines. Hinlo also advocates for state-managed farming to create jobs in rural areas. He suggests that both national and local governments should develop agricultural projects on public and rented lands. His proposals also include expanding government involvement in the fishing industry. This would focus on commercial fishing and seafood processing to provide more jobs for small fishermen. Additionally, Hinlo wants to change the hiring requirements for government posts in the farming and fishing sectors. He believes that most employees should not need to pass the Civil Service Examination, except for management roles. Lastly, he plans to introduce subjects on Philippine patriotism and ethics in schools, from elementary to college level.
