Jensen McRae gains attention as emerging Los Angeles songwriter

Jensen McRae is a rising folk-pop songwriter from Santa Monica, California. At age 27, she combines personal stories with her music, drawing inspiration from her life experiences. McRae writes not just songs but also poems, fiction, and screenplays. She describes music as her first creative choice. Her second album, “I Don’t Know How But They Found Me!,” will be released on April 25. Following this, she plans to embark on a tour in May. McRae reflects on her upbringing, noting that growing up as one of the few Black kids in her classes shaped her identity as a storyteller. It pushed her to embrace her unique perspective. McRae’s music features acoustic instruments and showcases her raw vocal talent. Her debut album in 2022, “Are You Happy Now?,” tackled difficult subjects like sexual predators through heartfelt lyrics supported only by her guitar. She continues to build her legacy in the California folk-pop scene, reminiscent of the iconic Laurel Canyon era.
