Jeremy Roach to play against former team Duke
Duke University faces a notable matchup this Sunday as they take on No. 9 Baylor in the NCAA tournament. This game will be special for Baylor's Jeremy Roach, who used to play for Duke. Roach was a key player for Duke, averaging 14 points per game last season. However, after a tough Elite Eight loss in 2024, the Blue Devils decided to change their roster dramatically. They brought in new talent, including star freshman Cooper Flagg. To adapt, Roach and some other players entered the transfer portal. Duke coach Jon Scheyer explained that the decision to let Roach go was respectful. He noted that the team wanted a bigger lineup, which could limit Roach's role. Roach decided that staying at Duke likely wouldn’t be beneficial for his career as he wanted to continue playing as a point guard. As Roach prepares to face his former team, he reflects positively on his time at Duke, calling it an important part of his life. Scheyer acknowledged Roach’s contributions during his four years with the team, stating that he truly cared about the program. Duke has undergone significant changes this season. They now have the tallest roster in college basketball, averaging 79.8 inches per player. Their new lineup has improved their defense, moving from 16th to 4th in defensive efficiency. Roach’s performance with Baylor has been consistent. He describes playing against Duke as surreal but plans to focus on the game without getting too emotional. The stage is set for an exciting matchup this weekend.
