The New York Jets have signed defensive tackle Jay Tufele, the team announced on Monday. Tufele is the second defensive tackle added by Jets General Manager Darren Mougey this offseason. Byron Cowart, who played for the Bears last year, was the first. Last season, Tufele played in 13 games and made three starts for the Cincinnati Bengals. He recorded 15 tackles, half a sack, and two quarterback hits during that time. He also had a career-high of 243 defensive snaps in 2024. Tufele was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the fourth round in 2021 after playing at the University of Southern California. He had a brief stint with Jacksonville, participating in four games before being claimed off waivers by the Bengals in 2022. Over his career, Tufele has played in 34 games with five starts. He has totaled 44 tackles and half a sack across 531 defensive snaps and 61 special teams snaps.
