Jewellery appraiser embezzled ₹1.3 crore in Tirupattur
A jewellery appraiser at a bank in Tirupattur has been arrested for stealing ₹1.3 crore. The 42-year-old, identified as K. Baskaran, pledges fake jewellery to create fake customer accounts. Baskaran has worked as an appraiser at the bank since 2011. Police reports show that he pledged 200 sovereigns of fake jewellery. This was discovered during a surprise inspection by senior bank officials. Investigations revealed that he used 42 different names for these fake accounts. Baskaran reportedly began the fraud just months after joining the bank. To avoid detection, he pledged small amounts of jewellery over the years. Following the discovery, bank officials filed a complaint with the police. An investigation is currently ongoing.
