Jharkhand plans to become micro food processing hub
Jamshedpur: The industry minister, Sanjay Prasad Yadav, believes Jharkhand can become a major center for micro food processing. He spoke at the opening of the Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Mahotsav in Jamshedpur on Sunday. Yadav reported that 1,638 loan applications under the PMFME scheme were approved for 2024-25. So far, 500 food processing units have been set up in the Kolhan division. He stressed the need for Jharkhand to become known not just for heavy industries, but also for its food processing sector. To boost participation among young people, Yadav encouraged banks to process valid loan applications more quickly. The PMFME scheme is designed to promote self-reliance and strengthen the state's economy. Farmers, producers' organizations, and self-help groups can receive grants that cover up to 35% of their project costs. Yadav also noted that self-help groups involved in food processing can secure working capital for equipment through this initiative.
