Jo Ann “Jan” Noble Murray passed away in Bath

Jo Ann "Jan" Noble Murray, aged 86, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2025. She died at the Plant Memorial Home after courageously battling Alzheimer’s disease and cancer. Jan was born on June 8, 1938, in Waterbury, Connecticut. She grew up in Naugatuck and graduated from Naugatuck High School. Jan was known for her kindness and strong sense of community. She raised her three sons in Middlebury, Connecticut, and spent many joyful summers at Popham Beach, Maine, a place she later called home after retiring in 2004. Throughout her career, Jan was dedicated to spiritual education and community service. She served as the Director of Religious Education for the Episcopal Diocese of Waterbury. She also made significant contributions to St. George’s Episcopal Church and co-founded the Gingerbread Village, a cherished community tradition. Jan is survived by her son Bruce Murray, daughter-in-law Suzanne, and step-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sons Craig and Andrew, and her former husband Glenn. A memorial service will be held at St. George’s Episcopal Church in Middlebury on May 3, 2025, at 11 a.m. Another service will take place at Popham Chapel in Maine this summer, with details to be announced. The family requests donations in Jan’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association or Plant Memorial Home instead of flowers.
