Job fair offers mobile career services in Richmond

ABC13's Who's Hiring Job Fair is changing the way job seekers connect with career help. Instead of visiting traditional offices, this event allows people to meet career advisors at local spots. The initiative is called "workforce on wheels" and aims to reach more individuals in the Houston area. On Thursday, the job fair will be held at the George Memorial Library in Richmond from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Over 20 employers will be present. Workforce Solutions will also provide assistance beyond job searching. “We can help with interview preparation,” said Workforce Solutions manager Jennifer Bridgeford. This includes practicing common interview questions to ease nerves. The advisors offer support for various needs, such as childcare and transportation costs. “We want to be that support for anyone looking for a job or struggling to keep one,” Bridgeford added. Job seekers can also access resources online. Workforce Solutions has a virtual resume builder on its website, as well as training programs to help individuals gain new skills from home. Experts advise that job hunting should be approached with a plan. “Don’t give up,” Bridgeford said. “Just like in sales, you might hear 'no' before getting a 'yes.'” Updates on the job fair can be found on social media platforms.
