John Amos, star of 'Good Times' and Emmy nominee for 'Roots,' dies at 84
John Amos, best known for his role as James Evans Sr. on the 1970s sitcom "Good Times," has died at 84. He passed away on August 21 from natural causes, confirmed by his publicist on October 1. Amos was also nominated for an Emmy for his performance in the 1977 miniseries "Roots." He portrayed a significant figure in television history, representing one of the first Black two-parent families on screen. In addition to "Good Times," Amos had a diverse career in film and television, including roles in "Coming to America" and "Die Hard 2." He is survived by his two children from his first marriage.
