Johns Hopkins University lays off over 2,000 staff
Johns Hopkins University announced it will lay off over 2,000 employees due to significant cuts in foreign aid funding from the Trump administration. The university cited a loss of more than $800 million in USAID funding as the reason for the layoffs. The cuts will affect 1,975 positions in 44 countries and 247 jobs in the U.S. Key programs, including the medical school and public health initiatives, will be impacted. Johns Hopkins is one of the universities most affected by these federal funding reductions. The U.S. Agency for International Development, which funds many of Johns Hopkins' global health projects, is undergoing major changes under the Trump administration. An executive order has frozen all U.S. foreign aid while expenses are reassessed.
