Jonathan Jones signs with Washington Commanders after consultation
Jonathan Jones has signed a one-year deal with the Washington Commanders. The cornerback made the decision after speaking with a close friend from his time with the New England Patriots. During his introductory press conference, Jones explained that head coach Dan Quinn played a significant role in his choice. He reached out to some contacts in the NFL and found only positive remarks about Quinn. When pressed about who he talked to, Jones joked, “You’re in the media. I can’t tell you my sources.” However, he eventually shared one name: Stephon Gilmore. The former Patriots All-Pro cornerback encouraged Jones to join Washington, saying Quinn is a "phenomenal coach.” Jones trusted Gilmore's opinion and felt confident in his decision. Before signing with the Commanders, Jones spent all nine of his NFL seasons with the Patriots, where he won two Super Bowls. Gilmore, who was teammates with Jones for four years, has played for several teams since leaving New England and is currently a free agent after a season with the Minnesota Vikings.
