Josee Doyon ranks highest among Canadians on Epson Tour
Josee Doyon faced a challenging second round at the IOA Golf Classic in Longwood, Florida, but her determination paid off. After a tough start that included a triple bogey on the second hole, Doyon rallied. "There's 16 more holes and I have two choices: I can either come back strong or give up," she said. She chose to fight back and earned three birdies in her next seven holes. The golfer from Saint-Georges, Quebec, finished tied for fifth in the tournament. This marked her first top-10 finish, allowing her to climb to 23rd place in the Race for the Card points list on the Epson Tour. Doyon is now the highest-ranked Canadian on the tour, surpassing Maddie Szeryk from London, Ontario. Doyon had struggled in her previous tournaments, missing cuts in the Central Florida Championship and the Atlantic Beach Classic. "To come back strong with the top five is good because my goal is to finish in the top 15," she said. Finishing in the top 15 will earn players LPGA Tour cards at the year’s end. The Epson Tour is taking a month-long break, with the next event scheduled for late April. However, Doyon plans to stay active by participating in two ANNIKA Women's All Pro Tour events in Louisiana. She is focused on improving her second shots, while her putting performance has been solid. In other golf news, NCAA golfer Lauren Kim from Surrey, British Columbia, won the Betsy Rawls Invitational, helping her team to victory. On the PGA Tour, Corey Conners from Listowel, Ontario, tied for sixth at the Players Championship, moving up in the FedEx Cup standings. Calgary golfers Stephen Ames and Mike Weir will participate in the Hoag Classic this week. Both have also committed to the Rogers Charity Classic in Calgary this summer, highlighting the event's significance on the Champions Tour.
