Joshua Blackledge, 16, dies; Newport community mourns
The Carteret County Public School Foundation has announced the death of Joshua Blackledge, a student at West Carteret High School. He was in the 11th grade and passed away on Tuesday at his home. The news was shared with deep sadness on social media, expressing condolences to his family, friends, and the school community. Joshua was 16 years old and participated in wrestling and track at school. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed activities like fishing and boating with friends. He also had a strong interest in cars and trucks, according to his obituary. In honor of Joshua, a memorial service will take place on Sunday at Camp Albemarle in Newport. He is survived by his parents, Jonathan and Jackie Blackledge, and his brother, Josiah Blackledge. Many members of the community are mourning his loss.
