Joshua Carroll convicted of murder in tragic park attack

A woman walking through a park said "hello" to a man lying face down on the ground and took two pictures. She thought he was just another case of anti-social behavior. Minutes later, another man heard a woman crying for help and found the same man, known as Barry, injured and lying on the ground. Barry was seriously hurt with a bloodied head and a footprint on his body. Sadly, he died from his injuries about two and a half weeks later. Joshua Carroll, 29, has been found guilty of murdering Barry after a trial revealed he had chased him down and repeatedly attacked him. Barry, who was homeless and living in a tent, was well-regarded in his community. On September 12, 2022, he was seen riding a bike and carrying items when he was attacked by Carroll. The attack left him with severe wounds, including a fractured eye socket and serious brain injuries. After the attack, Carroll left the park and attempted to wash his shoes. He was later seen riding Barry's bike. Despite his claims to have never had issues with Barry, evidence showed Carroll was involved in the violent attack. Carroll's mental health issues were discussed in court, but he denied murder. He was arrested on September 20 after police found Barry's DNA on his shoe. He will be sentenced next month. Barry's family expressed their heartbreak over his death. They described him as a loving and protective man, and they are searching for answers regarding this tragic incident.
