Joshua may get WBO title shot if Usyk vacates
Anthony Joshua may get a chance to fight for the WBO world title if Oleksandr Usyk decides to vacate it. TalkSPORT pundit Spencer Oliver believes Joshua can return to title contention with the right circumstances. Usyk is currently looking to battle Daniel Dubois for the undisputed title. Talks for this fight are underway for the summer. However, the WBO has ordered Usyk to defend his title against Joseph Parker. If Usyk chooses to face Dubois instead, he might vacate the WBO title, allowing Parker to take over. Oliver predicts that if Usyk vacates, Parker would become the full champion, and Joshua would be next in line to challenge him. He explained this scenario on a talkBOXING podcast. Despite his recent loss to Dubois, Joshua is still seen as a significant contender. Adam Smith from talkBOXING stated that Joshua, a two-time heavyweight champion, deserves another title shot. He believes Joshua can bounce back, citing his recovery after losing to Andy Ruiz in the past. Joshua had previously won against fighters like Francis Ngannou and Otto Wallin before his defeat at Wembley Stadium. He remains a major name in boxing, with hopes of a high-profile fight against Tyson Fury this year. However, Fury's future is uncertain as he has not confirmed his next match. Promoter Eddie Hearn mentioned that it may take one or two months before Joshua can start full training. This could limit him to just one fight in the year ahead.
