Journalist's arrest in Bhopal sparks media protests
A journalist was arrested in Bhopal, triggering protests by media workers. Kuldeep Singoria, a former employee of a national Hindi newspaper, was taken into custody late Monday night. His arrest is linked to an accident that occurred on March 20. Following his arrest, journalists gathered outside the Katara Hills police station on Tuesday morning. They accused the police of creating a false case against Singoria. The unrest prompted the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Sanjay Agrawal, to confirm that the police station in-charge has been removed from field duty. Singoria's arrest came after a four to five-day investigation. The police charged him and others with various offenses, including reckless driving and intimidation. The complaint involved a crash where an SUV hit a two-wheeler. The complainant alleged that the occupants of the SUV assaulted him and demanded money for damages. Media protests continued throughout the morning, with many journalists calling for justice. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav acknowledged the situation, while former Chief Minister Kamal Nath condemned the arrest as unjust. He demanded the release of Singoria and fair treatment in the case. In the afternoon, the district sessions court granted bail to Singoria.
