Judge claims wife's fatal shooting was accidental incident

Orange County Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Ferguson spoke publicly about the fatal shooting of his wife, claiming it was an accident. This comes after a jury could not reach a verdict, resulting in a mistrial. Ferguson, 74, is free on $2 million bail after the jury voted 11 to 1 in favor of convicting him of second-degree murder. The Orange County District Attorney plans to retry the case. During the trial, Ferguson admitted to being an alcoholic and having a high blood alcohol level at the time of the incident. He described the experience of being a defendant in a court he served for 40 years as bewildering.
