Judge denies legal groups' access to Guantanamo detainees
A federal judge denied requests from legal groups for access to clients at Guantanamo Bay, as there are currently no detainees there. The judge also rejected a request to block the potential transfer of ten individuals to the facility. The American Civil Liberties Union filed the suits, arguing that the Trump administration's actions caused harm to detainees. The judge expressed skepticism about the administration's use of Guantanamo for deterrence and noted that family members could file their own suits now that detainees are back on U.S. soil. Following the hearing, all detainees were transferred from Guantanamo to Louisiana. The judge requested the Department of Justice to notify the court if any of the ten individuals are transferred to Guantanamo in the future.
