Judge issues arrest warrant for disbarred lawyer in West Virginia fraud case
A judge has issued a bench warrant for Sean J. Prendergast, a disbarred lawyer, after he failed to appear for a federal court hearing on fraud charges. The hearing was postponed multiple times before the judge's decision on September 30. Prendergast was indicted on August 13 for wire fraud related to the unauthorized sale of a property in Snowshoe, West Virginia. He allegedly misled victims while directing payments to a bank account he controlled, totaling at least $443,777. This case follows Prendergast's disbarment in 2015 for previous misconduct involving a failed real estate investment. He has a maximum potential sentence of 20 years in prison if convicted.
