Judge rules Netflix series Baby Reindeer is not a true story, allowing defamation lawsuit to proceed

A US judge has ruled that the Netflix miniseries "Baby Reindeer" misled viewers by claiming to be a "true story." This allows Fiona Harvey, the real-life inspiration for a character in the show, to pursue her defamation lawsuit against Netflix. Harvey alleges the series falsely suggested she sexually assaulted creator Richard Gadd and was imprisoned for stalking him. The judge noted that while her actions were reprehensible, the show's portrayal was worse, allowing her to claim intentional infliction of emotional distress. The judge dismissed some of Harvey's claims but allowed her to proceed with the case regarding extreme false statements. Netflix plans to defend itself vigorously, supporting Gadd's right to share his story.
