Jully urges government to buy millet at MSP

timesofindia.indiatimes.com

In a recent Assembly session in Jaipur, Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully criticized the BJP government for not buying millet at the Minimum Support Price (MSP). He pointed out that no millet has been purchased under this scheme despite its arrival in the market. Jully also raised concerns about irregularities in the purchasing of groundnut in Bikaner. He urged the government to either start buying millet at MSP or stop making excuses. In response, Food Minister Sumit Godara highlighted that the MSP for millet has increased from Rs 1,250 per quintal in 2014 to Rs 2,600 now. He argued that farmers are selling millet for prices above the MSP in the market. Godara credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policies for these improvements. He mentioned that the government has fulfilled 58% of the commitments made in its Sankalp Patra, including the promise to purchase millet.
