Jury hears emergency call detailing shooting in trial of Irish barrister Diarmuid Phelan
The trial of Diarmuid Phelan, a barrister and farmer accused of murdering Keith Conlon, continues as the jury hears emergency calls from the day of the incident. Phelan claims he shot Conlon in self-defense on February 22, 2022. Three emergency calls were played in court. Phelan's call reported intruders on his farm, while a farm worker's call indicated that Phelan shot someone after warning the intruders to back off. A friend of Conlon described the shooting as occurring at point-blank range. Detective Garda Gary White testified that there was less than a minute between Phelan's call and the worker's call for an ambulance. Gardaí arrived nine minutes after Phelan's call ended.
