Jury selected for trial of accused retired teacher
A jury has been assembled to hear the case of a retired teacher accused of indecent assault against two pupils at a Midlands school. The alleged incidents took place between January 1989 and June 1991. The man, whose name is not being disclosed for legal reasons, has pleaded not guilty to seven charges at Mullingar Circuit Criminal Court. The jury consists of seven women and five men. The teacher had been working in education since the 1960s and was employed at the school in question during the 1980s. Six of the allegations involve one complainant. The allegations include indecently touching the student's legs and underpants, as well as more serious claims regarding his genitals. The seventh charge pertains to a second complainant. The judge has instructed the jury not to discuss the case or conduct any personal research. The trial is expected to last at least four days, with the possibility of extending to the following week. The jury will base their decision solely on the evidence presented in court.
