Justice Kotiswar Singh advocates for constitutional adherence in Manipur
IMPHAL - Justice N Kotiswar Singh of the Supreme Court emphasized that the people of Manipur can overcome their challenges by adhering to the Constitution. He made these remarks during an event celebrating the 12th anniversary of the Manipur High Court. Justice Singh noted that a delegation of Supreme Court judges observed a sense of hope among the residents of Churachandpur and Bishnupur during their recent visit. He expressed that the Constitution serves as a crucial guide during tough times. He highlighted the rich traditions of Churachandpur, mentioning its contributions to the judiciary, including the emergence of two judges from the area. Justice Singh urged the community to work together to strengthen the country and avoid actions that could weaken it. During their visit, the Supreme Court judges also interacted with internally displaced persons and visited relief camps. They virtually inaugurated several initiatives, including a legal services camp and a medical camp, to support those affected by recent violence. Since May 2023, ethnic conflicts have led to over 250 deaths and left thousands homeless in Manipur, particularly affecting the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities.
