Juvenile injured in stabbing at Palm Springs VillageFest

A juvenile was stabbed in downtown Palm Springs on Thursday night while the VillageFest street fair was occurring nearby. The incident took place around 6:15 p.m. in the parking lot of the Kimpton Rowan Palm Springs Hotel. Police arrived at a chaotic scene where many people were running. They learned that a fight had broken out among several juveniles, during which one juvenile stabbed another in the leg. Witnesses reported that another juvenile at the scene might have had a gun and possibly showed it, although details from witnesses varied. The suspect who stabbed the juvenile, along with the one who may have had a gun, fled the scene. The injured juvenile was taken to a hospital and is now in stable condition. Police have not yet located the suspects, who are believed to be from Desert Hot Springs. The ages of the suspects and the victim are not known. This incident is the second recent stabbing involving juveniles at or near VillageFest. In October, two juveniles were shot after a fight nearby. A 20-year-old man was arrested in connection with that incident. Police are expressing concern about the risk of violence among young people during events and are investigating whether the latest incident was gang-related.
