Columbus police are looking into a shooting that injured a juvenile on Wednesday afternoon. The incident happened as students were leaving the Linden-McKinley STEM Academy in South Linden. At around 2:50 p.m., police received reports of gunfire at the intersection of Duxberry Avenue and Dresden Street, near the school. When medics arrived, they found a juvenile with at least one gunshot wound. The injured person was taken to Nationwide Children's Hospital and is in stable condition. Police noted the juvenile is expected to be treated and released. Mike DeFabbo, Chief of Staff for Columbus City Schools, stated that school officials were aware of the gunshots as students were being dismissed. They quickly called the students back into the building and put the school on a temporary lockdown, which was lifted by 2:58 p.m. DeFabbo confirmed that the shooting victim was not a student from Linden-McKinley and that no students were harmed. Police believe the shooting resulted from an altercation, but they have not identified any suspects or shared the victim's age. An inquiry about whether the victim might be a student from another school is still pending.
